BBC News on Why Barrack Obama Won

Dear Friends,

In my blog article entitled Bloomberg Interview with Herb Sandler on Sub-Prime, I voiced concern as to whether "there is a price to the Presidential Election Campaign Donation", in which President Elect, Mr. Obama received US$700 million in donations.

My friend Victor has pointed out the BBC news article today, written by Richard Lister entitled, "Why Barrack Obama Won". In the article, Lister explained that

"With the help of Facebook founder Chris Hughes - who devised an innovative internet fundraising system - the campaign eventually attracted more than three million donors. They donated about $650m (£403m) - more than both presidential contenders in 2004 combined."

This is good news for America. It means that on average, a donor donated US$216.66. If so, President Elect Mr. Obama may be in a good position to act "without fear or favor" in managing both the American economy and the country.

Congratulations to America on completing the 44th Presidential Election! An even heartier Congratulations is in order, to Mr. Obama for a well won victory, to become the world's most powerful man.

The most important message Mr. Obama brings to Americans is HOPE. For the sake of not only all Americans but the whole world, we hope that the Obama HOPE can be turned into positive reality, in these troubled economic times.

Lastly, my sympathy goes to Mr. McCain who came across as a charismatic leader in his election campaign. It was most unfortunate that his team could not develop a sexy and coherent economic revival message that he could offer to voters.

In my opinion, this was the ultimate reason why he lost. When Mr. McCain's campaign message turned negative (personal attack on Obama), it was all but lost. No one was interested in personal attack at a time when everyone wanted to know what the future President of US is going to do to solve the economic problems of the country. It was the key messages that failed Mr. McCain.

Best wishes,

Ooi
